SCHOOL OUTREACH
The ICC Peninsula Chapter Membership/Outreach Committee would like to bring our message about building safety to schools in your jurisdiction. With the new school year starting, now is the perfect time for you to contact your local schools about our presentation. Here is some information about our presentation:
2nd through 4th grades are the best target audience for our presentation
60 minute assembly is the ideal time for us to provide an effective presentation
200 students are the maximum number for an effective presentation. For large schools, we can provide multiple presentations.
Local media – The outreach committee will reach out to the local media and invite them to the presentation.
Our committee members will provide the presentation. We also highly encourage the Building Official and/or Building Department staff members of the local jurisdiction participate in the presentation.
Content of Presentation: We will introduce the students to the public safety triangle and our role as the "quiet heroes". We will show a short video about our roles in providing building safety and will provide a "show and tell" with several building related props. We will emphasize the importance of working smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms and alert them to potential hazards such as the "electrical octopus" that may be present in their home. At the end of each presentation, the students will be "deputized" as Junior Building Inspectors and will be provided with a play hard hat.
PLEASE CONTACT YOUR LOCAL SCHOOLS AND ENCOURAGE THEM TO SCHEDULE A PRESENTATION TODAY!
For additional information or to schedule a presentation, please contact Susan O’Brien at [email protected] or Patricia Kutzmann at [email protected]

Membership in the Peninsula Chapter provides an opportunity to keep up to date on the activities of the ICC and code adoption status. Plus it also serves as a forum to discuss code changes, interpretations, and updates.
