Effective Navigation and Application of the Energy Standards:

Making Sense of Title 24, Part 6 for Alterations & New Work

Thursday, November 12, 2015

8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Underwriters Laboratories – Fremont Office

47266 Benicia St., Fremont, CA 94538

Synopsis: Does finding your way through Title 24/Part 6 still give you difficulties?  Having trouble pointing your permit applicants in the right direction, when all they want to do is change out HVAC, a water heater, roofing, or lighting?  Stumped when a permit applicant asks you if that is the only form needed for their project?

Then you’ll want to attend this informative training session, focusing on getting small common projects permitted quickly, and in understanding just what is required to do so.   Chris Olvera (CEC Staff), will help you get a grip on the issues you face in slotting a project into a permit framework.   You’ll learn:

  • What the concepts are behind common measures of Title 24/Part 6
  • Finding your way around the Energy Standards quickly and efficiently
  • Break down an incoming project into components that define which regulations become the drivers of compliance

Chris will give you pointers to get your plan checks started in the right direction, and to navigate your way to the right combinations of forms, for common permit applications.   You won’t want to miss this interactive event.

Topics covered will include discussion of:

  • Residential & Nonresidential
  • New construction, Alterations, & Additions
  • Mechanical systems, Lighting systems, & Roofing systems
  • Compliance documentation
  • Overview of the organization of Title 24/Part 6

Instructor: Christopher Olvera has over a dozen years of experience at the California Energy Commission.  He began work as a student on the Energy Standards Hotline, fielding questions from the design, building, and enforcing industries, and has served in several other positions, supporting a variety of programs.  Recently, Chris was promoted to Supervisor for the Outreach and Education Unit that develops training tools, presentations, and communications, to educate Building Departments and the building industry about the Building Energy Efficiency Standards.
